Rios de Ciência
"Rios de Ciência" (Rivers of Science in english) is a project of science education and divulgation that I conduct on the social media YouTube and Instagram (link in the images on the right). I publish videos of interviews, lectures, cultural tips, livestreams, and courses on YouTube, mostly in Portuguese. On Instagram, I announce the events online and disseminate current news of scientific discoveries that normally take time to be reported in Portuguese. I also disseminate the findings of new scientific articles published by NEPEE Team using simple and accessible language.
Science talks
In this conversation, I talked to the physicist Gui Araújo (PhD student at University of São Paulo) about the role of uncertainty in understanding the world. Yes, my friends, the awareness of uncertainty about something is our greatest ally, especially in the times of post-truth. Science education seeks to teach methods on how to reduce uncertainty, and this has several important applications for our lives.
In the live streaming "Women in Science: Challenges in the Career of an Arachnologist", I interviewed Dr. Aline Leles (UFU), Dr. Camila Vieira (UNICAMP) and the biologist Isabella Dias (UFU). It was an inspiring conversation with our team of arachnologists about the challenges in the career of a female scientist, from scientific initiation to graduate course and the motivation to do scientific researches using spiders.
In this amazing conversation about "Academic Experiences Abroad: Challenges and Learning", I interviewed master and doctoral student Monize Altomore (UFU) and Dr. Waldir Berbel-Filho (Swansea University). We talked about the experience of living abroad, the cultural challenges and the learning that these experiences can provide for a career during undergraduate and graduate courses.
I interviewed Profa. Dra. Ana Paula Perez (Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul) about "A Biologist's Journey in the Study of Cancer". We talked about cancer research, with an emphasis on the female prostate, the diagnoses, preventive care, treatments and other projects of Ana Paula dedicated to advise the local community.
I interviewed Profa. Dra. Ana Luiza Bossolani Martins (Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul) at Rios de Ciência. In honor of World Autism Awareness Day (April 2), we organized the live "Autism: from Scientific Research to the Practice of Everyday Life". We talked about Ana Luiza's career, who is a geneticist, her scientific research and social projects on autism.
Leandro (my student at NEPEE) and I interviewed a celebrity from Brazilian science communication and a conservation biologist, Prof. Dr. Hugo Fernandes (State University of Ceará). We talked about “Conservation of biodiversity and scientific communication”. It was an amazing class of scientific communication.
Romilson Silva e o Dr. Yuri Messas.
